Agh! I am so behind on posting my outfits; it seems like my style concept has evolved so much since this picture. I don't really remember any useful comments about my inspiration or anything–just that I like this outfit better without the gloves. Incidentally, I want a pair of fingerless gloves that isn't really huge on me! The pair I had went missing. :( Oh well...

Things I Love Thursday: 28 May 2009

Hello, stranger!
  • I am in New York! And I love it.
  • New job opportunities...maybe! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
  • This song...Can you tell I am obsessed with The Bird and the Bee?
Okay, seriously...I'm not dead! I'm just way behind. Things around here are going to slowly get back to normal as I work through my backlog of outfits, etc.

I ♥ you all!

Things I Love Thursday: 14 May 2009

  • New haircut! The last two haircuts I've had were collaborations between me and my aunt, and they're great. Seriously, if you don't mind taking risks, free haircuts are the best. (Pictures of today's adventure is coming!)
  • My friend Susan. She collects antique hats, and as a going-away present she let me choose one from her collection. The one I got is from the thirties, and yes, you will eventually see pictures.
  • Tina, my Pilates instructor. She's the best I've ever had and I'll be hard pressed to find anyone who even compares.
  • My third home. Ashland, Oregon: I will miss you.
  • My aunt and uncle. For putting up with me for 5ish months! I love them so.
  • The Team Fortress 2 Sniper update! (What do you expect? I'm a geek.)

Bad fashion blogger; not posting your outfits! During times of change, this blog does tend to get a little lost in the lurch, unfortunately. Moving from coast to coast is definitely a change! Once I settle down in New York, I'll try to get on that "regular posting" thing that everyone seems to be on about. :)

Fun fact: My grandpa really liked this oufit.

P.S.: Thanks, all who took the poll! I will continue with my normal posting schedule; that is, posting articles on Sunday and Tuesday.

  • "Servant of Two Masters"! I saw this play at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Hilarious! It's an interactive play and I happened to be interacted with big time. That's always fun.
  • Being more well-known than I thought. Apparently this blog has a much bigger readership than I expected. Sweet.
  • "Gay Bar" by Electric Six.
  • The Stephen Colbert "On Notice" Board Generator.
  • Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.
Und du, my sugarpuffs?

  • "DeepLeap: The [aptly named] Fast-Paced Time Wasting Word Game".
  • If you are familiar with the OC season finale and/or the SNL "Dear Sister" parody, AND Team Fortress 2, you probably will find this video humorous.

P.S.: New header! Also, one day left for the poll.

Live Stylishly: 5 May 2009

  • Watch more Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! You might as well get your news in an enjoyable way.
  • Grab a friend and dress as twins (for a party? Day? Week? Month?)
  • Wear multiple belts.
  • Write everything in iambic pentameter.
  • Create a portrait of a friend and give it to them. No drawing skills? Get creative! Draw in stick figures, add explanatory text, make it abstract, collage, make it an extreme close-up…get in touch with your artsy fartsy side.
  • Skip the makeup.
  • Make a commitment to dancing every day (even if it’s just in the privacy of your room).
  • Visit Urban Prankster and get inspired to do some trickery yourself!
  • Listen to Weird Al Yankovic.
  • Make a point of always carrying a small toy in your purse or pocket. It prevents boredom and is a great conversation starter.
  • Two words: fake blood.

On Summer Boots

Boots are my most beloved type of footwear - so much so that I absolutely cannot give them up for the summer. Yes, it can be so hot that my eyebrows feel like they're melting into my eyes, but I will still voluntarily encase my feet in leather. Call me crazy if you want! (I don't count that as an insult, anyhow.)

Things to consider if you're looking for a pair of "summer" boots:

  • Material.
For the love of everything, get boots in a breathable fabric! Otherwise, your feet will probably end up in moist hell at the end of the day. Good materials to look for are leather or (cotton/hemp) canvas. I know there are also some fancy new synthetic, vegan leather substitutes that are breathable, but I'm not sure of their names.

  • Socks.
Unless you are wearing cutout or open-toed boots, absorbent socks (preferably in good ol' cotton) will help keep your feet dry and comfortable. Skipping socks will create a sweaty, slippery mess and make your boots smelly!

  • Height.
Common sense. An ankle boot covers less skin than a thigh-high and therefore will give you less heat troubles.

  • The rest of your outfit.
Since you're covering your feet and lower legs, let the rest of your body breathe a bit, mmkay? Showing bare skin above your boots is particularly effective, as it allows the hot air inside to escape.

  • Type.
Certain types of boots will serve you better in hot weather, and some are even designed for it.
  • Cowboy boots: Originally designed for desert conditions. Usually made out of breathable leather. The loose shaft provides some ventilation.
  • Jungle/Desert boots: Designed for troops fighting in hot conditions. Find them at an army surplus or army/navy store.
  • Hiking boots: Usually constructed out of breathable materials. Short shaft.
  • Cutout boots: For obvious reasons. Also, they're so darn pretty.

Polyvore for details

Do you wear boots in the summer? How do you wear them?

I'm not really as pissed off as my facial expression and posture in these pictures would suggest. It's just been a long day. Love my mad scientist hair, though! I also can't get enough of that orange necklace. Clashing? Who cares about clashing?

In other's already May! Only 15 more days 'till I return to the East Coast! Insane.

P.S.: Take the poll! ☛
