Things I Love Thursday: 26 February 2009

by Marc Johns

I'm baaaaaaack! It may take a while to get back to my normal posting volume (lots of chores associated with having a computer again), but still. I'm back! It feels good. Now back to your regularly scheduled TiLT...
  • Having my Compy back! 'Nuff said.
  • The fact that I'm going back to school in the fall. I so miss it.
  • Awesome hats. When I upload my daily outfits, you shall see...
  • Albino! and Oregon Transplant. I went to their awesome concert in Ashland last week. Oregon Transplant totally hyped the crowd, and Albino!? Well, they're just magical.
  • Artichoke hearts. Mmmm.
  • Knitting! I did so much knitting when my computer was away. I'm thinking of starting an Etsy store...
What's floatin' your boat today, kittens?

Regular Blogging on Hiatus

Dear readers,
It seems that my computer is ill and must take a trip to the hospital (a.k.a. the Apple Store). Unfortunately, all my in-progress articles were saved on this computer, and I also don't have any easy way to upload pictures from my camera. I will still try to post a bit, but for a week or more this blog will be in hibernation.

Kisses,
Anna

Noncheesy Valentine's Gifts For Everyone On (and Off) Your List

Sure, Valentine's Day is a big commercial mess, but that doesn't mean giving gifts isn't fun! Here are some gifts available online that anyone would be thrilled to receive.

Item: a softer world's Truth and Beauty Bombs t-shirt
Get it for: Your best friend; the war protester on your street corner; a death metal-lovin' pacifist.

Item: A sleek compact with a secret condom compartment (and if you get the red one, 10% of your purchase goes to help the fight against AIDS!)
Get it for: Yourself; your *ahem* experienced friend; your little sister (set a good example!)

Item: Julia Pott's All the Boys print
Get it for: Your best guy friend; your brother; your dad.

Item: stoopidgerl's You and Me pendant
Get it for: Your raver friend; the girl you babysit; the classmate that always brings in cupcakes.

Item: Tilly Bloom's Cupid's Revolver print
Get it for: An emo kid; a writer; a friend with a tumultuous love life.

Item: The Kissaholic Kissing Kit (contains aphrodisiac lip gloss and breath mist!)
Get it for: A budding makeup artist; a natural remedy enthusiast; yourself!

Item: A Half a Conversation t-shirt
Get it for: A hipster; a player; a typographer.

Item: The Nice Jewish Guys calendar
Get it for: Anyone single; anyone Jewish; anyone with a sense of humor.

Item: A pair of glittery TOMS
Get it for: A displaced Kansas native; a walking Barbie who needs some flat shoes; a disco dancer.

Item: A Wishlist necklace
Get it for: Your PoMo girlfriend; a web designer; anyone who expects bling from you in these hard economic times.

Item: dazeychic's Where We Will Sparkle Forever print
Get it for: Your intended; your child; the wall at the workplace of your dream job.

Item: Kama Sutra condoms
Hand them out to everyone you run into on Valentine's Day!

Item: Threadless's "Friday I'm In Love" t-shirt
Get it for: Your rock jam partner; a (wannabe or original) '80s goth; a fan of The Mighty Boosh.

Item: queenBlingerie's Vixen bra
Get it for: Your girlfriend; your mistress; your favorite drag queen.

That should just about cover it! But if you're broke, try these three cheap, easy, foolproof DIY gifts:

  • Baking
Just give them from the heart and you can't go wrong.

Things I Love Thursday: 5 February 2009

Photo by the gleam of rose tea
  • Eagles! I've been M.I.A. the past couple days because I was out in the Klamath area looking for bald eagles. Pictures forthcoming! I love birds, and seeing tons of bald eagles in the wild is so cool.
  • This song.
  • The best fish and chips ever. I had them at the brew pub in Klamath Falls.
  • Strengthening my core. Pilates is amazing.
  • New York City. Even though I'm not actually there.
What's cheering you on today?

DIY Adventures!

Meet my thoroughly awesome friend Josh, who comments here under the pseudonym Pseudolus. He's here to share some of his past/present/future DIY projects.

"Oy vey. . . these pix need some explaining.

First we have the belt whence came the studs for the mitts.

"Next, it's me clowning about in a red bedsheet I dumpstered today. Will it
become a dashiki? A poet shirt? A Socialist banner? Stay tuned. . .

"Then, the brocade dress. I found it in a dumpster outside JoAnn Fabrics, but I
had to ditch the mall cops in order to secure it. I have already ripped one
seam to get the most usable fabric in reach. I should be able to make the two
front panels [of a reconstructed vest] from the dress *knocks on wood* - the back? Meh, I'll scrounge something for it sooner or later. It would be really cool if there was enough fabric to make a matching tie or cravat.

"One shot of the old long-sleeve tie-dye tee that I'm making into a draw-string
rucksack.

"And then the mitts. Need I say more?"

I must add that Josh is a talented musician. You should definitely check out his music!

Story of the backwards tunic: In the shop, I accidentally tried it on backwards and liked it. I only discovered it was backwards when I took it off! So I tried it on the right way and it looked awful. Bought it, ripped out tag, wore backwards. The end.

How To Celebrate Valentine's Day - Regardless of Your Status

  • Make Valentines for your friends and slip them under their front door.
  • Dress up as formally as possible (think prom dresses and tuxes) and go to a fast food restaurant.
  • Celebrate something else that happened on February 14th. Dolly’s euthanization? The birth of Teller (as in Penn & Teller)? Pick something to your tastes and plan a party.
  • Grab another single friend and pretend to be a romantic couple, disregarding your gender and/or sexual orientation.
  • Wear red—in the form of fake blood.
  • Throw a party to meet new people—every single friend invited who attends must bring another single acquaintance.
  • Wear anatomical hearts.
  • Set up a kissing booth.
  • Color a spray bottle of water red and draw hearts in the snow (or fake a murder scene).
  • Dress up as a love casualty.
Do you have any other plans for V-Day?
